Health diplomacy alliance

HDA is a not-for-profit, member-based organization that applies diplomacy as an instrument to respond to health challenges shaped by geopolitics and national and community needs. We operate at the crossroads of health, foreign policy, and power struggles, promoting collaboration in situations where political interests make it difficult to work together on health issues and where just technical fixes aren’t enough. Drawing on diplomatic practice, policy expertise, and regional experience, we help governments and partners align health priorities with political realities. Our work strengthens dialogue, coordination, and trust so health responses remain feasible, legitimate, and responsive to the current complex world’s needs.

WHY we do it

Health in foreign policy

We aim to place health at the heart of foreign policy because decisions in this space shape financing, access, preparedness, and response, and health often enters these discussions late or indirectly.

The Alliance contributes to bringing health considerations into foreign policy and international relations debates, using evidence from practice and policy experience to inform advocacy and decision-making.

The core functions that drive our impact

At this critical juncture, predictable uncertainty requires clear reflection and adaptation from all of us, in how we work and how and what type of alliance we form, even as we face many geopolitics shift, there is still space for dialogue and collaboration.

how we do it

Theory to Practice

We employ health diplomacy as a practical instrument to contribute to international policy and diplomatic discussions.

The Alliance engages governments, international organizations, academia, civil society, and the private sector through structured dialogue, linking policy analysis with experience from diplomatic, multilateral, and implementation contexts to bring health considerations into foreign policy and international relations processes.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

Our priorities combine the use of scientific evidence with implementation. We link international discussions to how policies are designed, financed, and executed, feeding lessons back into global debates.
