Let’s Say It! – WAAW 2026

Antimicrobial resistance directly caused 1.14 million deaths in 2021. In 2024, governments committed to the UN to cut deaths associated with bacterial AMR by 10% by 2030. Are we  on track?

For World AMR Awareness Week (18 to 24 November), the Health Diplomacy Alliance launches Let’s Say It!: experts in human, animal, plant, and environmental health say what must be done now to prevent AMR,  and whether commitments are turning into action.

This year’s theme, set by the Quatripartie Organizations – FAO, UNEP, WHO and WOAH is “One Health, one action: Prevent AMR now.”

From Pledges to Prevention: Measuring Progress on AMR Commitments and Accountability

On 24 November, the final day of World AMR Awareness Week, the Health Diplomacy Alliance, the United Nations Environment Programme and the Geneva Environment Network hold “From Pledges to Prevention: Measuring Progress on AMR Commitments and Accountability”, from 10:30 to 12:00 at the Palais des Nations.

Experts and policymakers will assess the commitments made in the 2024 UN Political Declaration on AMR, including the target to cut deaths associated with bacterial AMR by 10% by 2030, against the evidence on what prevents resistance: infection prevention and control, water and sanitation, vaccination, responsible antimicrobial use, and action on environmental pollution.
